Hi, I have a question about the upcoming contest on March 20, 2006. I have a Flying Panda yo-yo by Duncan and I wondered if the tricks had to be in a certain class. Such as 1a(normal string tricks), 2a(looping tricks), 3a(double-handed string tricks), 4a(offstring), or 5a(freehand). I can only do offstring and I just wanted to check and make sure that I even had a chance at this contest.

    John,
You definitely have a chance, but pay close attention to the judging criteria. They are in order of importance, and the first two are Awesomeness, and Creativity. Presence of yo-yos doesn’t appear until 3rd place. So although this is a contest for yo-yo videos, don’t take that too literally. The whole point of this contest is to have fun with yo-yos. if you submitted the best Off-String freestyle ever, it wouldn’t win if it was a boring video. We want great VIDEOS, and we’re really hoping that people will get a little crazy with their entries and think WAY outside the box.

I have no name for my entry, nor does it have any words at the start or end of it. Is that allright? or should it have a name and or
    credits?

We don’t have any particular format in mind, but you should keep in mind that you are up against some very driven and focused people. You don’t need to stick to any video-making conventions, but you should make sure that your entry is the absolute best that you can make it. Titles can be very useful for the person watching the video to understand your intent, but you only have 60 seconds to work with so use the time wisely. Do what works best for you, and will yield the best final product.

I don’t understand if i have to do a video with only tricks or a video like Takeshi’s one

  6. mark Says:

The whole point of this contest is to bust out, have some fun, and see what yo-yo people are capable of. We have not set strict standards on purpose so that people can be creative. You can do anything you want, just remember that Awesomeness is the FIRST criterion we will use in the judging, followed by Creativity. Do something great. Surprise us. Use your imagination. Of course everyone wants to win, but if you make a great video and don’t win, you will still have a great video, and you will have made the yo-yo community that much better.
