Ben McPhee Breaks a World Yo-yo Record

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Yo-yo Factory is up to more hijinks. Ben McPhee broke the world record for spinning the most yo-yos at one time.

Read about it and see a video here.

The word out on the street is that yo-yos are coming back! Get it?
It’s true though.
Jokes aside, we’ve got the beginnings of a global craze on our hands. YAY!

Don’t Worry, We’re Still Here

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

There hasn’t been much activity here on the main page of howtoyoyo.com in a while, but don’t worry we’re still here. The last four months have been pretty busy in the non-yo-yo part of our lives, but with luck there will be some new trick videos, a new contest, and maybe even some new features in the semi-near future.

Keep practicing!

Flying Squizzel Goes on a Rampage!

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

Giant Sqizzels attack Tokyo! Run for your lives!

The Flying Squizzel, and his less famous brother the Earthbound Squizzel, went on a killing spree in Tokyo today. Apparently outraged by the misspelling of his name on the new Duncan yo-yo called “The Flying Squirrel”, the Squizzel brothers saw no option other than violence. It is unclear why they decided to trash Tokyo, although there is a long history of giant monsters destroying the city, so they may have just thought it was the cool thing to do.

No one knows the origin of the Squizzel brothers, but all agree that they are unstoppable when angry. “This kind of misspelling has been plaguing me ever since I was a larva!” said an exasperated Squizzel as he smashed an apartment complex. “RRRAAAUUUGGGG!” said his brother, also while smashing.

New site. New design. Generally new outlook.

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

Mark and Harper had decided to redo HowToYoyo.com about a year ago and had all these grand ideas… but nothing ever materialized. Finally we decided to focus on what we are really good at: talking. (…and we are REALLY good at talking.)

The new and improved Howtoyoyo.com has all the same features it had before – but now it has an easier to read, and easier to use format so you can spend less time navigating the site, and more time on important things like yo-yoing. Of course things will need tweaking for a while, so please have some patience, and tell us if things aren’t working the way they should. As always, we welcome your comments.

Wheel of Penalty at MWR results

Sunday, July 17th, 2005

The winners of the HowToYoYo.com Wheel of Penalty contest at Midwest Regional were:

1st place: Nate Shurilla- Nate endured 60 seconds of doing his freestyle both blindfolded AND while stuff was being thrown at him (his idea btw).

2nd place: John Narum- Somehow, the scribe didn’t write down what John had to do, but it was funny.

3rd palce: Dave Poyzer- Dave had to dress like a pirate. Plunger peg-leg and all. He said “arrrr” about 10 times.

Each of the three winners received two Duncan yo-yos. One from howtoyoyo.com, and 1st and 2nd places got a modded Mosquito from Takeshi.

Trick Catalog

Monday, September 13th, 2004

The below post was the beginning of a grand project that ultimately failed.  Our hope was to catalog every yo-yo trick we could find on video, but we knew from the beginning that it was something that we couldn’t do alone.  It turned out that virtually no one was interested in the project, and certainly no one wanted to help make it happen, so it was abandoned.

-HowToYoYo.com admins

—————

Since May of 2004 the HowToYoYo.com staff and Yo-yo Pros have been working on a running list of all of the yo-yo tricks that exist. We have now begun the process of gathering videos of all of the tricks so that anyone with computer access can see and learn any yo-yo trick. In addition to being a good learning tool we also hope that this yo-yo trick catalog will be a valuable resource for people who have been yo-yoing for years and know so many tricks that they can?t remember them all.

The ultimate goal is to catalog every single yo-yo trick, but at first we will have to be limited to tricks that have names. Later on, we hope to be able to catalog tricks with no names as well.

We invite all yo-yo players to look at the list and submit any tricks that aren?t there, suggest alternate names for tricks, and any other corrections or additions that may be needed.

Guidelines:

  • For now, only tricks with names will be accepted, and they should be tricks and names that are known by more than a handful of players.
  • Combos may be submitted, but for now, only combos that have been on contest trick lists, or are widely known and are recognizable by most players.
  • Please look at the list before you submit any trick names to be sure that what you are submitting is not already there.

We thank you for your time and contributions, and hope that this will be a valuable tool for everyone.
